Access rights between source and target

Hi All,

1. We are giving allowed directories - in source and dest - Are they only for read or write or for both?
2. The receiver should not able to access the whole directory structure of source(eventhough we mentioned allowed directories). Is this true?

The allowed directory is a root path. OD will be allowed to read and write to anything within that directory and any of its sub-directories as long as the owner of the OD Receiver process has file system access to do so.

On Unix, the default is to run OD as root - in which case it generally has full access within the specified allowed directory path. There is an option to run OD as non-root, in which case the account used to run the OD process will have access within the specified allowed directory path as long as that account has file system access there.

On Windows, I think it always runs as SYSTEM (or similar) - which generally gives it carte blanche within the allowed directory path.

If you are worry about a security hole with OD while running it as root(unix) or system(windows) then check out the OD Admin Guide pg 54 (OD 6.2). The guide will instruct you how to run OD with a different user. There are several restrictions when running as non root so caveat emptor.

If you were just asking about expected behavior when running as root or system then as ghotti said OD pretty much has complete control over your allowed directories.
