The Interwoven Web Daemon was unable to contact the Interwoven Servlet Engine

Hi guys,

After restarting the unix server i am unable to view the team site login page.
Its showing the below error.

The Interwoven Web Daemon was unable to contact the Interwoven Servlet Engine. The Interwoven Servlet Engine may be down, or running on an unexpected host or port.

Is this a new installation? also what are your environment details, please check servletd.log, iwserver.log logs and also search for "unable to contact the Interwoven Servlet Engine" in the forums., there are many threads on this you may find solution to your problem Hopefully

Execute the following command -
iwreset -a
and make sure that all TeamSite services are up and running.

whatever auli told is right. There must be one of the service down. The safest option will be iwreset -a . And also make sure all IW services are running.

Team site is already installed and it was working fine.Once the solaris server was restarted teamsite application showed error.

This is the log i got and this log file was growing and stoped after 1 hrs.

iwreset -a might fix your problem. It had worked for me in the past, during a file missing scenario.

If you haven't gotten this problem resolved yet, I suggest you get on the phone with Interwoven Support - and request a LiveMeeting session with a Support Engineer

I see the same file not found error in my logs and don't *usually* have any server reset or startup issues.

servletd_out.log:Error: file not found: /p01/app/iw/tsite/iw-home/servletd/conf/ssl_cert/private/key.pem

When I do it's because the servlet engine didn't start and the "The Interwoven Web Daemon was unable to contact the Interwoven Servlet Engine" error is thrown in the browser.

Manually starting the servlet engine always works for me...

iw-home/servletd/bin/servletd start

Disable your iwutild ssl port. Comment out the whole line with SSL port 6689 in [iw-home]/servletd/conf/iwutild_client.cfg and remove the port-ssl="6689" in [iw-home]/etc/iwutild.cfg.

Make sure you also have soap licence and your hostname specified in cssdk.cfg, entry is "defaultTSServer"

I would go with Adam's suggestion first try to get Support Engineer look into your issue.

I had the same issue. If you don't use teamsite over SSL you can comment it. Why don't you give it a try?

I will contact interwoven support team.May be they can help but it will take some time.
I will post the solution if i get one..

I am not sure stoppping Interwoven Servlet Engine manually will be safe...
I have been trying certain things but nothing seems to work..

have you just tried to bounce the box? a hung port on any number of services/processes could impact tomcats ability to start. it is very picky, but if you want it to work, you want to keep it that way.

I was facing the same problem in TS6.7.1 on Solaris 10.
We went for SP1 upgrade and on post uograde we didn't encounter any servletd issue.

Hi everyone,

we got this solved by taking help of interwoven support live meeting..
the issue was with permission over two folders
iwui and servletd
iw-home/TeamSite/local/logs/iwui
iw-home/TeamSite/servletd

changed the owner of the folder/files to iwui user and it worked..

This happened bcos earlier to make some changes we asked write access for certain users on these folders and thus permissions were changed..
at that time we had no idea allowing a user group to have modify access can raise this kind of problems.
