OD and WebSphere Application Server

Hello all,

I just heard of a project where I am contracting that is in final stages of bringing in OD for application distribution to WebSphere Application server on AIX. You will have to bear with me for being a noobie with IW. I have usually "rolled my own" deployments using other tools at hand.

From what I can put together from various posts here, since I can't get to the docs on the IW site, it looks like deployments use JACL scripts for remote deployment to a ND cluster. Is this correct? If that is the case then where are we going to be since IBM has deprecated using JACL in favor of using JYTHON in future WAS releases since 6.1?

OD proper does not use TCL, JACL, Perl or any other scripting for that matter.

Instead, IWOV implements their own protocol to facilitate Data exchange between OD Base and OD Receiver(s).
(And yes, there must be OD receiver process listening). OD is highly configurable, (almost) all configurations are pure XML.

That said, Deploy and Run (DNR) feature of the Product allows you to run anything you want: Java Classes, JACL, JYTHON (I have no idea what
that one is), compiled binaries, you name it.

If you are planning to use OD, scoping it or just doing feasibility study - get documentation through your IWOV Account Manager
