iwgen error: could not create
gsumers22texas
Receiving following error when trying to invoke iwgen:
tmp/****.htm: could not create
tried following prescription in Article # 2370 (for NT, were on Solaris TS and TST 5.0.1) but didn't help
the following is the iwgen command we're using: $/projects/iw-home/bin/iwgen -t /iwmnt/default/main/branch1/branch2/WORKAREA/TestUsr4/templatedata/dc1/dt1/presentation/about.tpl -r /iwmnt/default/main/branch1/branch2/WORKAREA/TestUsr4/templatedata/dc1/dt1/data/about_dcfs /tmp/****.htm and we're receiving the following error:
/tmp/****.htm: could not create
permissions on tmp are 777 am invoking iwgen as "root"
templating.cfg category set up as follows:
<category name="dc1">
<locations>
<branch vpath-regex=".*" />
</locations>
<data-type name="dt1" dcr-type="iwov">
<presentation>
<template name="about.tpl" extension="htm">
<locations>
<branch vpath-regex=".*" preview-dir="/DCFS">
<directory dir-regex=".*" />
</branch>
</locations>
</template>
</presentation>
</data-type>
</category>
are leading slashes "/" the problem with running on Solaris? or the /iwmnt ?
many thanks for all replies

iwgen wants TeamSite vpaths, not file system paths.
Since the output file must be a TeamSite vpath, so /tmp/****.htm is not valid.
Also, you may want to try your command without "/iwmnt" at the beginning of every path.

I faced the similar issue. It figured if I use the CLT from shell, it needs vpath and if I use it within my IPL then it needs absolute path from /iwmnt
I do not know if you are using it from command prompt or is it part of your script.
Hope this helps.

We're running from a perl script, via a system command (thus the full paths), plus we can't test on command line because the 255 character limit from telnet is violated by the lengths of the paths requried in the iwgen options
have also changed the output value to the workarea (/iwmnt/default/main/branch1/branch2/WORKAREA/TestUsr4) (instead of /tmp) and got same result
code in Perl
system("/projects/iw-home/bin/iwgen -t /iwmnt/default/main/branch1/branch2/WORKAREA/TestUsr4/templatedata/dc1/dt1/presentation/about.tpl -r /iwmnt/default/main/branch1/branch2/WORKAREA/TestUsr4/templatedata/dc1/dt1/data/about_dcfs /tmp/****.htm");

have also tried removing /iwmnt from the paths, but with same result-
the fact that the tst.500.dev.pdf example of iwgen leaves off the -r flag is a typo right? without it we get usage errors

You should not only remove "/iwmnt" from the beginning of your paths, but you should also replace "/tmp/****.htm" with a valid vpath.

doing both actions (set vpath to workarea destination and removing /iwmnt/ from all paths) was the trick-
the new statement that generated the file was:
iwgen -t /default/main/branch1/branch2/WORKAREA/TestUsr4/templatedata/dc1/dt2/presentation/about.tpl -r /default/main/branch1/branch2/WORKAREA/TestUsr4/templatedata/dc1/dt1/data/about_dcfs /default/main/branch1/branch2/WORKAREA/TestUsr4/****.htm
