Threads & Licenses

This weekend I migrated about 7,000 assets into MediaBin; I used a couple instances of some programs to do this and noticed that when I had six users connected and 15 threads running, that all 90 of our concurrent licenses were used up -- one of the jobs got this error message.

So, can anyone confirm that each queued job executes in it's own thread and that every thread uses one license?

Every user connection uses a license. Not every job queued. Please refer to the enterprise manager section of the admin guide to determine who is connected to MB.

To finish the thought, MediaBin is a highly multithreaded application and there is not a direct correlation between threads and users either. Clearly more users will tend to use more threads but the number of threads also depends on factors like the number of running jobs.

Occasionally people will abandon the web client without explicitly logging out and then the connections take a while before they can be declared dead. Hence the advice in the previous post!
