fieldMapping.xml file

This file is used for dpecifying extended attributes. These EAs are already specified in TS, so what does this file do ? secondly, "fieldName" element does not specify an exact path, so whats the use of this "fieldName" . In TS, there is nothing called "MetaData", there is a tab "TAG" which appears in the properties of a DCR. So how will this xml file link to metadata ?

I am confused with the use of this file. Can anyone pls explain the basics of this file. I am trying to read thru PDF, but still very confused.

The fieldMapping.xml file under iwsearch-home\etc\fieldMapping.xml actually
defines the EAs and Templating Attributes to be Indexed by Search Server.You will need to edit fieldmapping.xml file manually for configuring search for replicant metadata fields . And You will have to re-index all the files in case you add or edit any attribute to this file.

You can check the iwsearch-home\etc\fieldMapping.xml.example after a new search install .

After constructing a Query using Query schema, with what file extension can this file be saved (.xml, .cfg or anything else)and in which directory shall I place this query ?

Is naming for query hardcoded or custom ?

To execute this query, I just use "iwsrchquery query-name" at command prompt , right ?

The FieldMapping.xml file can be edited to include certain customization as indicated "nbwoven" below but may not be renamed.
