Problem Retaining Metadata...

Hi,

Can somebody let me know if it is possible to retain the Document VersionOperator, create date and Edit date. When we move documents and versions between different libraries. I'm presently using the GetCopy() and importCmd to acheive this. But these fields are automatically defaulted to the Current User and Server Date time. My objective is to retain these metadata values in the Target Library folder.I'm trying to customize File Site Client menus for v8.2.

No, unfortunately, you will not be able to pre-profile any of those date fields. The create and edit dates are stamped by the server and cannot be overwritten. If it's for the sake of preserving these dates, you may use the custom date fields to hold on to them, like so:

'Assuming Context is a valid ContextItems collection object
Context.Add ("IManExt.Import.Custom21", CDate(Today))
Context.Add ("IManExt.Import.Custom22", CDate(Today))
Context.Add ("IManExt.Import.Custom23", CDate(Today))
Context.Add ("IManExt.Import.Custom24", CDate(Today))


You may restore the original operator by catching the ImportCmd_OnInitDialog Event, like so:

' Event handlers to ImportCmd and NewProfileDlg Objects
Private WithEvents oCmd As IMANEXTLib.ImportCmd
Private WithEvents oDlg As IMANEXTLib.NewProfileDlg

...

Private Sub oCmd_OnInitDialog(ByVal pMyInterface As Object) Handles oCmd.OnInitDialog

' You may preset validated lookup fields and default security here.
oDlg = pMyInterface
oDlg.SetAttributeValueByID(IManage.AttributeID.nrOperator, "GUEST", True)
End Sub

(Please note that the operator must be a valid user in the destination database.)
