Any way to make edits in code and have them show in the DCR?

I've recently taken a job and my co-workers are more content people that always work with the DCR's in the GUI, however I'm a developer and I'm just pulling my hair out having to work in this GUI. I don't have any control over the server, so I don't have script access or anything that would make my life much easier, and I have about 60 pages to create and working with the GUI is just soooo **** painful and slow.

Is there ANY WAY you can make edits using MS Visual Web Dev or textpad and those changes show up when one of my non techie co-workers open the DCR while inside teamsite? I've tried the normal things and found that the template overwrites the data, and I've tried editing the DCR XML just to find that the information shows up on the aspx page but it doesn't show when you open the DCR in the the GUI...

I also don't have access to of teamsites tools, I'm in a very large organization and there is hundreds of people involved. I just need a way to make edits, to a large amount of pages and not be forced into working with the GUI, I know it's going to triple the time it's going to take for me to finsih this project.

Editing the DCR XML *should* work. That is the file of record for your data. If it is there, it gets propagated out. That being said, there can be programmed interdependencies say if field 1 changes, field 2 will change as well (this is done via FormAPI/javascript). That is a local customization and no one here can help without seeing the code.

I do stuff like this all the time, write perl scripts to update hundreds of DCRs and then regenerate the content.

I know it's makes sense, I found the xml data that the site uses to generate the page, so I was positive that if I edited a field in the xml and regen the page that when i opened up the DCR that number would be there, but it wasn't.

Maybe, I'm missing a step here. What I did was open up the xml doc, then I found an existing field that had a number in it, now all i needed to do was replace that number with another one and call it good.

Now, me being me, I thought "well I'll just open them all up in textpad and do a find replace with the new number that will save me heeps of time" which I did with one to test, saved the page, regenerated it, but when I opened up the DCR through the GUI the old number was still there, dispite being changed in the XML. Which doesn't make any sense to me at all?

Is there some kind of godawful cacheing in this software that I'm just not aware of, or am I missing something here?

I really appreciate the help guys, normally I'd scour through the documentation however........nobody here has any and I can't get into to get the support areas to get my hands on the dev docs so I'm extremely limited on what I have on hand, and all nobody here besides me is a developer and I just don't operate well inside GUI's.

I've created and edited DCRs using Emacs and VI/VIM, and Perl a number of times - but that's usually with having access to the server - either through a mapped drive or mount point or similar.

I'm not sure I'd recommend doing so as "normal business process" - but when you're trying to make changes to hundreds or thousands of DCRs it's not that difficult to do.

If your changes aren't showing up after you've made them - then you're doing something wrong - since I can't see exactly what you're doing - I can't tell you where you're making mistakes.

Ok, this is just weird... I guess I did something wrong, because it seems to be working now.
