Folder submission does not result in db record delete

We run TS 6.5 and OD 6.1 on a Win2003 server. When a user submits a deleted file specifically, the corresponding record in the database gets deleted through datadeploy. However, when the deleted file is inside a directory and that directory gets submitted by the user, the row deletion doesn't take place. Is this behavior by design? Any suggestions on how it can be resolved?

You need to make sure that your workflow expands directories into their list of files so that the actual list of files is what gets processed by DataDeploy.
