TeamSite::DCRnode and non-7 bit characters

I'm trying to use DCRnode to manage an XML file. When I attempt to set_inner_xml with data that contains any characters that are not in the lower 127 of the ASCII set (eg those odd "A"s that templating puts in for non-breaking spaces) it won't update the content at all - infact, it blanks it out.

I've tried to set the encoding, but either that is not working, or I'm not doing it correctly or I'm not using a valid encoding scheme.

I've also attempted to use DCRparser ...

$newString = $dcrParserRN->utf8_normalize_string("UTF-8", $value);

but I get this back:

Unsupported XML encoding: TEAMSITE: Smiley Very Happy

Any help?

utf8_normalize_string is a function, not an object method.

Try this:
$newString = utf8_normalize_string("UTF-8", $value);
