Webdesk not showing New Record menu option

I'm running into a problem where I'm logged in as an author, I own my workarea, and I'm in the group that owns the workarea.
In the Webdesk UI, the first option under 'File' is 'Copy...', then 'Move...', etc. 'New File', 'New Directory', and 'New Record' are absent.
However, if I log on as root (who also has author privs), these options DO show up.
This problem only affects the author-only WebDesk -- WebDeskPro shows everything as it should be.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

What platform is the TeamSite server?
What version of TeamSite / TeamSite Templating?
What browser and version of browser are you using?
I just tried this with TeamSite / TeamSite Templating 5.5.2 on my W2K laptop using IE 5.5 - and was *not* able to replicate the problem. (the only other difference is that the Author I logged in as, does not *own* the workareas - but they are in the group for sharing and I verified that the workarea has permissions set for that group by going through the Windows Explorer and right-clicking on the workarea folder and looking at the Properties information)

interwoven 5.5.2 on solaris via IE 5.5 .
i was able to get the desired result with two other usesr who are members of authors.
so it looks like it's limited to the user who actually owns the workarea.

This has been solved -- IW support contact me with the solution.
I had to, for the user in question, go to the 'View' menu, and select 'All Files'.
This brought 'New *' back to the 'File' menu.
