search capabilities in Interwoven

Our interwoven templating structure has about 20 category/types. With each category/type around 100 dcrs will be created/stored.

The content authors would want to search a list of dcrs based on extended attributes and/or dcr filenames.

Is there a way to do this in Interwoven ? Does it come with any inbuilt search tool ?

I dont know if this feature is already available or not but just thought of suggesting that you coul dhave your custom menu item wihtin TeamSite which will run your script. This script will have TeamSite CLT iwextattr to check for the extended attribute and compose a custom report.

I read through some documentation which mentioned that DCR search capability can be achieved if we install DataDeploy. Any ideas? Will this be an overkill ?

It would depend on the initiative you are working on. Essentially, you would need to setup a database for DataDeploy to feed content. However, once the data is DataDeployed to tables, SQL makes the query very effective. I am sure DataDeploy gurus can help you here with the details. Please also specify which version of TeamSite are you using and which platform.

I would still suggest to try the custom menu item approach first as that way you would be able to test atleast. Also, you could use PERL and that would literally smoke through the filesystem and fetch extended attributes using TeamSite command line tools.
