Download Errors
sleah
Some files are getting the following errors when trying to download using (None) option:
PDF File:
Exception in Primitive {1E885AE1}! Reason = Problem in RIP.
, Message = PDFDecoder: Error ripping page content
A Tif File:
Exception of unknown origin in Primitive {EA4C42E1}!
We will be upgrading but are currently on Version 4.5.2 Build 14
Any idea on what would cause?
Thanks!
Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,
We rec'd that error and it was because we were using Mediabin 4.5.3 and Adobe Reader 8.0 and our version of MediaBin is not compatible with Adobe Reader 8.0. We were told do downgrade to Adobe Reader 7.0 and it worked for us.
Just so you know the (None) or (Do nothing) doesn't mean what you think it means. We found that when that is selected, it actually does something. You actually want to go one value up in the list (it's almost hidden) to "Get original"

Stacy,
Thank you for that information but it didn't quite work. Using "Get Original" does seem to work to get the files but the various tasks are generating errors (not just the "None" as I first thought). I tested on a machine without Acrobat 8.0 and it still gave the error. Some files will download but many are not.
Just to be clear regarding Acrobat. I am not on the server side of the tool.....I am the one that uploads all of the assets, creates tasks, sets up users and such. Perhaps I misunderstood the Acrobat issue. Is it on the server side or the user where it would need to be less than version 8? If the user, then it doesn't work.
Forgive me if that is no-brainer question, just making sure I understand correctly.

Hi Stephanie,
Yes that is correct. No, that's not a no-brainer question. You should see some of my questions.
When the MediaBin server is trying to process the pdf files, it is leveraging the Adobe software on the server where the MediaBin Server Service is installed. On the flip side of the coin, once the pdf is actually on your (client) machine, then it is the Adobe software on the client machine is used to view the files and that can be version 8.0.
Are you a system administrator? Would you be modifiying the MediaBin Server?
I am a client of iwov also, so I might be way off base here. However, I'm just sharing with you that we had exactly the same error message which leads me to believe that it Adobe Reader on the MediaBin Server server. You might want to contact support, just to be sure.

The messages are almost certainly unrelated and will depend on what is in the files! Please send the files and all available logs (if prim.log is not on please turn it on and try to download) to support.
Thanks,
Lyman Hurd
