File Owner Name???

Hi,

The directories, files and workareas does not have proper owner name. All of a sudden, those name got changed and now it looks like "S-1-5-21-1487472903-838666396-1598175747". Hence we are finding it extremely difficult to know who modified the file, directory and workarea.

Could anyone tell me what is the reason for this and how to fix this?

It could be a number of issues.

Did the file get submitted ? If so, what does the submit.cfg say the owner should be ? iwtestcfg will help figure that out.

S-12345... is DOS's way of telling you it has no idea who the owner is (was). Likely it was set to a user Joe and then that user was removed from the system/domain.

You can read up on idmap to fix the old files once you make certain the problem has stopped happening.

Pawan, it is the owner name got changed. we are using TS 6.5 on windows environment.
Earlier, there was a valid owner name but I do not know what happened suddenly. It is not only with the owner name, even in the modified user name too I see this "S-1-5-21-1487472903-838666396-1598175747".

Any thoughts on this.

it is a CLT iwidmap. You can get help from the command line or check out the CLT manual

What you see is not the name.

It is so called Windows Security Identifier or SID. That is what File System actually associates with Files, not UID.
Please note that SIDs are not recycled. If you create UID 'mottai' Windows will automatically assign a SID for it and all
Files created by you will have 'mottai' shown wherever appropriate (the SID is *mapped* to 'mattai' UID). If you then delete
this UID and re-create 'mottai' again it'll have a different SID! Old SID - UID mapping will be lost and existing Files will
show "S-..-.." (former orphaned SID) where 'mottai' used to be.

Long story short, something changed. Your administrators restored/recreated TS Host Environment or copied iwstore or lost and
recreated System's repository or restored Owners/Groups or moved them to Domains / ADS Controllers, who knows.

In some cases 'iwidmap' can help but you have to have your original store to create a mapping before you can restore it!

So that I get the original owner/modified name for mapping using iwidmap.

I am also facing the same issue, but my file owner is intact wheras, the "Modified By" value has changed to S-1-5-21-299431-322123-123432. Its strange that it has affected only some of the files.

Nothing has changed w.r.t user or domain. Can anybody throw some more light on this?
