Hi how do i get the no of lines entered in a textarea

Hi all,
i have to limit end user(not in datacapture) to enter less than or equal to specified no of lines in a textarea. to do that
I am getting the text into one var
var arr1=document.getElementById('txtarea').value;
var x= new Array(arr1.split(" "));

but some how this not working properly any suggestions???

This will help you in doin your job..

If no newline characters have been entered, it returns "1" since it's
all one line (even if wrapped by the browser).

use the method onclick=alert(escap(textarea name.value).split('%0A').length);

Krisha nice idea but it counts lines only when enter is keyed in it doesn't count lines formed as a result of line wraps. and the way you suggested returns three even with a single character i/p
