having difficulty to set special characters in DCR from Datacapture.cfg

Hi everyone, I have tried to use CDATA in my datacapture.cfg file to set special characters in DCR. The codes in datacapture file are,

var item = IWDatacapture.getItem("/Content/paragraph");
item.setValue ("<![CDATA["+item.getValue()+"]]>");

note: item.getValue() = < > < > & % *

the codes are in attached file.

Please help me if anybody have any experience on it. Thanks in advanced.

You shouldn't need to do that if the encoding of the DCT and PT are set properly to handle the special characters you need to use.

Thanks, it is set to what you just mentioned, but still doesn't work. what I found out I just have to set "CDATA" inside of "value" in order to get it right. But anybody else have better idea that would be really appreciable. Thanks in advanced. By the way I am working on TS6.5.

You haven't clearly defined the problem.

What is it you want to happen and what is it doing instead?

Is the problem with the DCT, the DCRs, the PTs or all three?

when i set the value through FormAPI i acutally want to see the angle brackets for the CDATA when i open up the xml file of DCR

check note1.txt to see how i want the xml file to show

but instead I see the escaped version see note2.txt

visual formatting is converting that way

I'm trying to set the value through FormAPI see note3_formapi.txt

we want to see the XML file exactly like note1.txt so when we open up the form visual format will know it's CDATA block and will take care of it. We know this because when we hard code it to the actual XML file like that in note1.txt and open up the DCR it works fine

what you need here is the pasteHTML method of the VFE.. I do not think it can be used with Form API but a little thought to the same may help you find a solution

thanks but how about would I do this I know i can't do this through FormAPI the pasteHTML method, but I would have to do this in the javascript files from ewebeditpro directory

would this file be the ewebeditproevents.js or is there way it can be done through formAPI

Hey everyone, finally I found the solution of this issue. I thought I should share with you guys. what I did, I used callserver to call a perl script which will read the DCR and write back to that file with CDATA right after tag. the main codes are ...

$xmltext =~ s/\n//g;
$xmltext =~ s/()([^<].*?)(<\ /value>)/$1$2$3\n/gi;
$xmltext =~ s/&/&/g;
$xmltext =~ s/>/>/g;
$xmltext =~ s/</ $xmltext =~ s/( )/$1/g;

i think it may solved by the changing the DTD for that DCR. you should change the defination of that field value to type CDATA instead of PCDATA in the DTD you are using for that DCR.
