calling global variable

I am using WFM 1.0.0 SP1. I want to access the global variables inside a ipl file called by external task. The value of global variable comes from custom instantiation screen.

The case is: I have created a custom_instantiation screen for my workflow. so on selecting New Job the first screen will ask wf users to select a 'country name' form a drop down provided. The item 'Country' is supposed to be a global variable.
I want to take this value selected by users and use it in ipl file called by external task. which is the next task.

i guess this can be called in a perl script using $this_task->GetVariable('Variable') but it is not taking the value selected by user in custom instantiation form. It is taking the default value of the Global variable.

Kindly help me how can i call this value inside the perl script. Also if there is any other way to do this.

I have used two methods successfully...

In one case I passed the global variable at the command line.

d:\iw-home\iw-perl\bin\iwperl d:\custom\scripts\test.ipl $myglobalvariable

This bumps the job, task and vpath over by one so you have to adjust your arguments.

In my second case I needed a global variable $IW_BRANCH passed to my ipl.

In the task icon I created a configurable variable myBranch and set it equal to $IW_BRANCH and referenced $TASK->Getvariable('myBranch') in the ipl script.
