Custom Menu Items

This question is for Teamsite version 6.7.1 sp1 .

Since a user can have different roles in different branches, does Teamsite enable / disable custom menu items that the role allows or does not allow, based on location. After trying everything in the documentation I have found that once you enable a menu item for a role, it stay on no matter where the user navigates. This seems to be different from how the OOTB teamsite menu items work. Here's what I did so far

1) Added menu to ui_custom -- worked
2) Added operation id to userops -- worked. Can see the option in Custom User Operations.
3) Create custom role, assigned Custom User Operation.
4) If user doesnot have the custom role, the custom menu item does not show.
5) Added user to branch1 as the custom role. The custom menu item is now visible.
6) User navigates to branch2 where they have a different role. Custom menu item is still visible. --- This contradicts what the documentation claims should happen, as well as how the OOTB menu items work.

So the question is

Is this how it is supposed to work? If not did I missed a step?

Interesting question - you may be one of the few who have attempted to do this and you should probably open a case with IWOV Support.

Yup support is already looking at it. I figured the 19000 odd folks on this forum have a wide variety of experience between them, someone has gotta have run into this. I will keep this post updated with what I find.

I agree that the described behavior contradicts documented Use Case (or at least my understanding of it).

Still, while Support is looking have you tried to set "Location dependent" Access explicitly?
GUI, Administration Tab->Roles and Permissions->Manage Roles. Select a Role, you should get custom Menu
options. Check the Collection you need for this Location/Role

Did that. I have also verified that it works for the OOTB Menu items. Here's something interesting. If the OOTB menu item is unchecked, the items appears greyed out. But if the Custom menu is unchecked, the item doesnot appear at all. That indicates that the 2 are handled differently. I find that a bit strange since a menu item, is a menu item, is a menu item...

Although Custom Menu mechanisms for access credentials setting differ for different Versions, the behavior been just like that since time immemorial.
