Multiple Domain Controllers

Hi folks,

I am very new to TS, so please let me know if this is documented somewhere that I have not found yet.

Today, we provide a single domain controller in the configuration. In reality, we have multiple domain controllers to utilize. I'd like to specify multiple controllers to provide redundancy, should one of them have an issue.

The manual indicates this syntax:

[iwserver]
domain_list=domain1,domain2,domain3

[iwserver]
domain_list=domain1, domain2:domain_controllerA, domain3

It isn't clear to me that multiple domain controllers can be specified, or exactly how that would work.

I would appreciate if somebody could enlighten me on this, and/or describe how they have provided redundancy for AD authentications.

FYI, we are running TS 6.5 SP3 on Windows.

IIRC, you do not need to specify the controllers. When TS starts up, it queries the network for all the DCs out there. Obviously if you have an extremely large net you may not want to do this, thus you have some parameters to filter out only a set of DCs to work with.

Do not know if someone has an exact answer to your question but in case not, I would have tried doing something like this -
[iwserver]
domain_list=domain1, domain2:domain_controllerA, domain2:domain_controllerB, domain3

run a iwreset and then check the iwtrace log to see if TS is fetching data from both the controllers or just one.

If one, then you are good. If both, then you will have to remove the additional entry.

If you are good, then you will have to work with your IT dept to get this one DC out of the network and try again and see if TS fetches users from the 2nd domain controller..

If anyone has already been so redundant, they can provide better information.

Probably, try this on a dev box with all Standard Testing Techniques and precautions..
