Task not able to transition

Hi,
I am getting a problem where my workflow is not able to transition to a usertask from an external task. I have checked the logs and my external task which does generation and deployment is executing fine. What can be the reason for that. I can post my code and logs but there is nothing which is being shown in the logs...

Is your external task remains in Active state, if yes, then it hasn't been transitioned to the userTask.
Check the job using CLT iwgetwfobj or try the workflow in debug mode.

I am assuming this is a WFT with a perl external task.

It is either that you are not ending correctly (with task->CallBack()) the external task or (more likely) there is a bug in your external task and the script is dying. Does it run at all ? If you have a syntax error in your perl then it will look like it hung but never start.

I am logging at various steps and I see a callback executed after the successful deployment but still the workflow doesn't transition. Attached is my external task code

The task get's transitioned but it's shown as pending task for activation. So it's getting transitioned to the successor but it's not getting activated

Check for the owner of the userTask and please post your WFT file.

The owner of my external task is "iwmaster" an admin user having master access and the owner of the successor task is a different user. As per the flow -
"Work on SCR" transitions to "Deploy to Dev" which should transition to "Work on SCR"

It may be trying to get the locks, how are locks handled. I see this often.

I have recently changed the ownership of all my external tasks from iw_areaowner to a master user.

Right but if the previous task is owned by admin and has the lock set to true, then your user may not have the permission to unlock them.

To test this out, find the files in the task and unlock them manually and wait a few minutes, it is not immediate. If it is the issue, you can stick unlock.ipl in the WF to take care of it.

For my user task the lock attribute is set to true...

if "Files to lock" are already locked the Task will wait it's turn, possibly indefinitely.

If I were you, I would set 'lock' to false and use 'locktask' instead. This way you can determine locking Success
or Failure and fork your Workflow to process these outcomes accordingly.
