Unable to establish connection with server

Hi All,
I am posting this again in this section.

We were having TS6.1 on windows 2003. we took the backup of files and installed the OS again.

Then we did a fresh install of TS6.7.1. In the iw.cfg we copied the license-key and all in the [iwserver] section. rebooted the system

Now we are getting the below error

TeamSite I18N initialization successful!
[Tue Mar 25 20:09:35 2008]
*** IWServer Locale is --> English_UnitedStates.MS1252@Binary
[Tue Mar 25 20:09:35 2008] ERROR: License validation failed (3): No such file or directory
[Tue Mar 25 20:09:35 2008] Contact Interwoven for a new license key.

we dont have any I:\iw-home\etc\TS.lic file.

Note: IW account manager told us that we will not require license , we can use the same old license. (so we never generated any license).

Can you one please help us on this.

You asked a sales rep. That was dumb.

In TS 6.5 IWOV changed the license key. It is not in iw.cfg anymore. It is a separate file. You do need to go to the support site and regen the license. You do not need to pay for it.

A new license is required as nipper said. Who was your rep?! That was pretty lame advise.

I was aware of the answer, but my client is a TOO GREAT, so they dont listern to us they listern to the IW Account manager. Becuase of this only we did not generate the license.

I will show them your reply.

by the way who recurits IW Account managers, because the thumb rule is that if we dont know an answer you can check the same with the Team(tech guys) and then reply. Its people like Fish/nipper/karla who know more than the IW AC Managers and L1/L2 support people.

Few days back i was discussing some thing with a IW guy, he told me that devnet should be renamed as fishnet and I feel thats true.

I can't comment too much on account managers - but I would like to clarify something with respect to Support - the last 5-10 times I've had to call Support with a problem, I've tended to get good response times, with good results (even on those occasions where I pretty much knew I was SOL - there seemed to be a sense of a dedicated attempt to see if there was a work-around).

Now - I suppose it's possible that it was because it was me calling - but I'd like to think that not to be the case.

That's not to say you won't get some cases falling in the cracks or some responses that don't work - they are, after all, human ;-)

As for "fishnet" - nah - it would be added pressure and false promises - but thanks for the thought ... I just want to get to the next level beyond "2nd life Diamond" now that Nipper's in that category too ;-)

Our Rep is pretty good and is always helping us along. It is a good thing when a rep checks with the tech guys, since the rep is not expected to know every answer to a tech question, but it is a bad thing when they deliver the wrong information.

As far for support, I have no complaints, although they are sometimes slow to come up with a solution. They have always deliver a good solution.

So, I find your case the exception to the rule.
