PT compilation failing, how do I trap the PERL exception?

Hi,

When compiling a PT, I receive the following: "An error occurred during PT compilation. Please see more details in log files."

I'm trying to instantiate an object that doesn't exist, but for future reference I'm hoping someone can tell me how to access the PERL error message. I checked the logs in the Administration section, but there's not a peep in either the server, event or trace log.
