workflow - email task attributes

I have an email task in a work flow. Now I am trying to define attribute for this task. When I click on the area left of Attribute, I get template to define name and value of the attribute. But the drop down menu in the name and value columns does not provide any selection like mail_template. Why is that, isn't it supposed to be default ? How can I correct this problem ?

I believe the options in the drop-down are just that - options, but I believe you can just click within the text field and type your own name if you want.
