Users with read-only permissions are unable to preview flash assets
BlueWhale
Hi,
The basic users (who has read-only permissions) can't able to "play clips" (preview) the flash files (.swf files). This is working fine for administrators.
When the users click on "Play Clip", they're getting the below error:
"Could not process the selected Asset(s).
Could not Retrieve asset: Preview.swf. Error 8004041C : The user is not authorized for the action or access to the object "
We have MediaBin 4.6.1 on Windows.
Please advise.
Thank You.

To clarify, do the users who cannot see the flash files have "List" or "Read"? In the former case this is as expected as "List" permission does not suffice to download a file.

Lyman,
As I mentioned, the users have "Read" permissions on the files that they're trying to preview.

Sorry, some people use the terms interchangeably. Had to check!
There may be a problem with the staging area the web client uses to stream from. Are there any messages in MBP.log when the problems occur? If you view the job log after an attempt to view the asset do you see a successful job? When you stream a flash file a job is run in the background on your behalf. That would help narrow down the possible places things could go wrong: a) there is not evidence of the job queuing, b) the job attempts to queue but yields an error, c) the job queues but fails to complete, or d) the job completes but the process breaks down at that point. My best guess to date would be options c) and d) although neither should really depend on asset permissions...
Have you restricted access to (Get Original)? That might explain it since anyone with Change or better permissions gets access to (None) ad (Get Original) independent of task permissions.

Thank You Lyman for your feedback.
I came to know that the users don’t have read access for EveryOne on the Get Original task. After assigning those permissions for the "Get Original tak", the issue was resolved.
Thanks,
