Quesion about permanently deleting files

Hi,

I have an area of Teamsite that we use to manage an intranet site. No editions are ever created, we just deploy directly from staging to the webservers.

Theres a huge amount of files that aren't needed anymore, and I'd like to reduce the size of the backing store.

Having deleted the files, and submitted the deletion to staging, I was expecting this to have released disk space, as the file does not exist in any workarea, staging or edition.

However, I've noticed that if I choose View > All and Deleted Files I can still see and undelete the files. Therefore I assume they are still being stored somewhere.

Could anyone tell me what is happening and how to completely remove the files to free up disk space?

What version/os/patchlevel are you on?

You could try 'iwfsshrink'.

Otherwise ask support.

It's Teamsite 6.5 SP2 running on Windows Server 2003.

I will try and FS Shrink as we've not done one for a while, but will this completely remove the 'deleted' files?

It seems to be behaving as though the files do still exist in an edition somewhere, but there aren't any editions.

There may not be 'named' editions, but there will be internal 'unnamed' editions.

Try something like this vpath: /default/main/mybranch/EDITION/#00001

or see the 'Archived In:' property in the 'Submit details' of a submit-log.

Ah I can see what you mean.. for example I can see a hidden edition:

EDITION/#11222

etc..

Is there any way to delete these editions to permanently free up disk space? Will they get cleared during an fs shrink?

Try creating a new (named) edition, and then try deleting it.

That's just a guess, but it's based on the assumption that the hidden editions are being maintained as change-records since the INITIAL edition. If you create a new edition it may "release" the hidden editions from being required, and then if you delete that named edition, the existence of the hidden editions may not block the garbage collection of deleted files.
It's all a guess though. If that doesn't work - you really should try contacting Interwoven Support - and then post back on the resolution (and close the thread) when you figure it out.

The deleted files still being viewed are exactly what you guys have discussed. Teamsite is maintaining these files because they are part of implicit editions (#****). The first question I would ask is if there is a requirement to maintain history of the Intranet site when these files were vitial.? If the answer is yes, then Teamsite is saving you from removing this ability. If no, then next question would be, Is the Branch you are working within still in use? If not removing the branch all together would work too.

Thinking about how TeamSite manages version history.
One thing I think will work(Please test this in non prod and do a small regression first): Create a new branch and copy the old WA to the new location. Then delete the old branch
