OpenDeploy and Akamai

Hi
Can anyone suggest me if we can deploy files from TeamSite to Akamai server using OD 6.7.1. If it can be done, please suggest me how it can be done. I could not find any info on this in any of the Open Deploy PDFs.

My Take on this...
Even if you could do this, it would heavily rely on working with akamai to make sure the edge servers have open deploy receivers to recieve the files. And again depending on your firewall & network policies this solutions adds more complexities into the mix.

A simpler solution would be to leverage akamai caching and cache control utility. You will find lot of docs on Akamai site if you have your support uid/pwd

Just curious - are you aware of ANY Akamai Client that was allowed to install anything at all on the Edge Servers?

Not that I know of. They would not install any specific software for a client.

But I know you can use software they already have on their edge like IBM websphere ( with additional $$$ )

But around a year back there were a few releases and articles that sounded like akamai might support OD.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I have read in Akamai website that Akamai supports Interwoven OpenDeploy. Also, I read somewhere that the deployment should be done to the Akamai EdgeSuite service. I have two more doubts on this:

1. Is there any restriction on the type of content that can be deployed to Akamai? If so, what type of content can be deployed?

2. What is Akamai Edgesuite service?How is it integerated with OpenDeploy?How will it be able to recognize if the content to be deployed is from an authorized client?

Good answer, this is exactly what we are pursuing now.

We used to have OpenDeploy working with Akamai with a pre and post DNR scripts, supplied by Akamai, to activate the replication of the digital assets to the edge servers. The actual transfer used to be very fast, but the post DNR script performance was horrible (over 10min). The result was a false error since the firewalls would break the connection after a 10min idle.

Later we moved to FTP deployments using the OpenDeploy FTP adapter, which has a better performance when deploying just a few files. Large files or large amount of files are not up to the mark when using the adapter.

An alternative solution we are considering is deploying the files to a local origin server and use the Akamai cache controls to force a refresh.

We'll post the outcome here once the final solution is implemented.

See my comments above, there is no restriction to type of content that I know of, we haven't ran into it in 10 years.
In regards to the Edgesuite there are a lot of documentation on control.akamai.com.
