Setting the metadata
Renata
Hi,
I'm relatively new to MetaTagger and have to answer lots of questions in a very short time. Can any one help? here's just a sample:
1. what is the real difference of setting metadata on a DCR vs. a generated page? Any implications I should remember before i make a recommendation?
2. does it make sense to create summorizer using rules based index? would it take considerably more time than with tokenization?
3. do I absolutely need pre-processor in order to have the Set metadata form automatically populated with metadata?
thanks a bunch -- Renata

Let me answer the easiest question first:
3. do I absolutely need pre-processor in order to have the Set metadata form automatically populated with metadata?
No, you can also use an Extractor to populate information in Metadata capture form with document content. The key difference is that an Extractor looks for a particular text pattern (i.e. $200.00 or 10/12/2002) whereas the pre-processor allows you too look for document structure information (i.e. a heading, a title, etc.). And to answer the question technically--all of the functions of MetaTagger populate a metadata form with metadata, but I don't think that was what you were getting at here.
2. does it make sense to create summorizer using rules based index? would it take considerably more time than with tokenization?
I may be wrong, but I don't believe you can do this. As I understand it, we can use the following indicies: Simple, Phrase and Statistical. I'm not sure what you meant by the rules-based index for a Summarizer.
1. what is the real difference of setting metadata on a DCR vs. a generated page? Any implications I should remember before i make a recommendation?
Major implications if you are using the DCRs in multiple locations or used to port directly into other content. One company I know of, for instance is using MetaTagger stricly on DCRs and NOT generating pages at all. If they want the ability to search out DCRs based on metadata, this is a pretty good case for setting metadata prior to document creation.
There are my 2 cents.

Thanks -- we are in fact setting metadata on DCRs for the reasons stated in your response.
