Global Folder Permission Reset...help Please!!!

I am at my witts end with this product. We have a massive amount of data stored in our "new" Media Bin product (v 4.5.3 Build 15) with hundreds of folders and thousands of sub-folders within its structure.

Technical support and training staff say there is no way to do what I'm about to ask, but I beg to differ. I simply cannot believe that a powerful product like this cannot perform a simple, basic global edit function.

What I need to do is change a particular user group's permissions through the entire folder structure. Currently, I need to click on every single folder, view the permissions for that folder, "inherit" the parent permissions from the folder above it, hit enter, and then my arrow-down key.

With tens of thousands of folders needing to be changed from Read access to Change access, you can't tell me that every single folder has to be manually accessed and updated one at a time.

PLEASE...TECH GENIUSES...HELP ME. I have a deadline that is fast approaching.

Can you clarify are you attempting this from MB Web Client or Native Client and do you have access to make changes from both ?

We are not working on the Web Client. We have tried to unlock the permissions the way it would "seem" to work, but it continually crashes the app when we do.

In MB 4.6 release notes:

The management of folder permissions within the MediaBin Native Windows client has been reworked. New functionality allows permissions to be propagated to all subfolders of a folder, and allows more selective editing of permissions. Folder permission loading is now done on request eliminating previous delay in display on systems with large numbers of folders.

The current version of MB is 4.6.1.

Ask support to provide you the migrate permissions script. What it will do is export all your permissions to an xml file. You can then do a search and replace in that file to change permissions and then import it back. That might be a better way to deal with a big folder structure at least in 4.5.3.

Hi Kathy,

I know how you feel. Two questions, when you are in the MB Win Client, have your tried clicking on the "Edit Permissions" button on the toolbar?

It's a quikry interface but, I think will do what you want it to do.

Just so you know, when you click that button it loads ALL the permissions in the entire system. It's really slow and you might have to go to lunch and come back later before the Edit Permissions window actually shows up.

if that doesn't do the job for you, I have a script that I use for backing up and restoring permissions but, I'm sure we can tweak it to do what you need.
