Affect on Existing DCR's when on renaming the Datatypes.

Can any one please tell/explain , whether renaming of the datatype name affects the exsisting DCR's for that category.

Yes - it does.
Each DCR has an EA associated with it that defines the category/data-type to which it belongs.
Each generated page from the DCR should also have an EA associated with it that defines the category/data-type of the DCR from whence it was generated.

All of that is reasonably easily fixed - just takes a bit of script coding.

Can i set the EA by just selecting the 'Add Templating Attibutes' from the menu. will that do or still i need to script it down.

"Add Templating Attributes" sounds like a custom menu item (I don't see it in my 671SP1+P1 interface anyway) - so it might work.

Do a File > Properties on the file first - look at what it shows, and then use Add Templating Attributes and repeat File > Properties afterwards and see if it changed correctly (this is assuming you've renamed the data-type directory already).

If that works, you'll have to try the same thing with a generated file to see if it works there.

However, unless you're dealing with a handfull of files (5 to 10 perhaps) - you'll probably be better off writing a script to recurse through the directories in the branch and automate the process as appropriate.
