How to retrieve modified file(Overwritten after Get Latest)

Dear All,

We had thousands of modified files in our WORKAREA. By mistake,one of my Team member executed Get Latest of the whole WORKAREA from Staging.As a result,all the modified files in WORKAREA got overwritten with Staging version and all our hard work was lost. Could you please let us know any option to retrieve the modified file or at least the list of overwritten files ?

If you had not submitted the old files, chances are that you have lost them forever. Because a new version of the file is created only when it is submitted to Staging area. You can rely on your backup policy if you have one.

Is your backing store on something like a NetApp Filer? If so - there should be snapshots that you can go through to find recently deleted files.
Do your workareas get backed up (not standard practice, but ...) If so - there should be a backup from which you could retrieve some of the unsubmitted files (mount backup as temporary second store)

Failing that - yes - you should be able to find an updatelog somewhere (I don't remember, haven't looked for it or at it in years)

Steps to retrieve your delta's lost:

1) Have your backup team restore the copy of the store prior to the get latest to an alternate location
2) Modify iw.cfg with a new store location pointing to the restored location(call the restored store something different like restored_)
3) Activate the restored store using iwstoreadm
4) Since you cannot copy or compare across stores you must get the old data to the existing store.
4a)There are a number of ways to do this, but the easiest is to use OpenDeploy and leverage deploying extended attributes.
4b)Create a new Workarea in your existing store within the same branch and at the same level as the workarea where the get latest was executed.
4c)create a OD config and deploy from the restored workarea to the new blank Workarea you created.
5) Now you have two WA's with which you can use TeamSite's copy and compare tools to find what you need to copy back into your prod Workarea. Or a ref workarea you can provide your users to retreive lost delta.
6) Once completed remove the deployed Workarea and deactive the restored store.

Caution:
1)if you have corrupt files in the workarea or invalid paths(eg: unix does not like spaces) it is not advisable to using a transactional based deployment with Od, since OD will fail on one file and rollback your deployment, which could take hours depending on the size of the codebase. Instead turn off this feature and then review for failures post the completion of the deployment and deal with each as a one off.
2) Do this off hours, it will take a good amt. of system resources to deploy a whole workarea with ext attr in use.
3) Make sure to remove any locks which are in place on the source workarea since these locks are part of ext attr and will be mirrored in the target WA and could cause some pain for your users.
4) Most importantly: If you are not 100% comfortable with these steps please ask for clarification or get a TeamSite subject matter expert to assist.
