Presentation Templates

We have presentation templates that are used only for previewing and presentation templates that are used only for generating. Is there a way, when a user clicks the Preview button to only show them the "preview" presentation templates that they can chose from? Same thing for generating. We do have _preview in the file name of each of our preview templates so we can distinguish between them, but we have found that users are having a hard time understanding the difference.

If you do not list the non-preview TPL in templating.cfg, users will not be able to preview against it. However, you won't be able to use the 'generate' button in the Templating GUI either.

This may be acceptable if you are going to automatically generate with workflow. If this is the case, you can use iwpt_compile.ipl. iwgen will not work since it consults templating.cfg. Note that iwpt_compile is a raw templating compiler, so it does not set the Templating EAs. You would also need to do this from your workflow.

Instead you can know in your presentation template if the user has pressed a preview or generate and code accordingly in the presentation template. See KB https://support.interwoven.com/kb/kb_show_article2.asp?ArticleID=1927 for more info on this. Hope this helps

Hi, I know this thread is quite old, but it matches what I need to do. I'm interresting in trying either of these solutions, but the article 1927 has a restricted access (have asked Support if they can make it available for me). In the meantime, could somebody describe a bit more in detail what needs to be done when using iwpt_compile? Do I have to change something in iwpt_compile and/or in my workflow?

At the moment, my templating.cfg file has this structure (an example):

My preview template is the first one (de.tpl). The other two are called from a workflow and generate the final output. If I delete these two from templating.cfg, my iwtrace.log says the files "does not have a configured filename extension".

If it wasn't clear: I want to have the de.tpl automatically selected when the user hit the preview button, instead of having to choose it manually.

If somebody can help, It would be great!

Hey theer is a way in your Presentation template to detewrmine whether you clicked on Preview or on Generate and the following code does Just that.
I have used this in one of my projects and it works FIne
Just Paste this directly in your tpl and test it out

I tried it out, but I still get the popup selection when hitting the preview button. Does it matter where in the template I paste it in?
