Validate Multi select List box

Hi,
There is a Multiselect list Item whose values are populated by a callout button. Is there any way by which I can apply a validation such that the multi select list box has maximum of only 254 characters. Can we apply regx validation on such an item. If possible please provide a solution for the same.

I believe you can use FormAPI code to get the values of the selections and sum up their lengths and then determine if the sum is within your parameters.

I don't know the exact syntax off the top of my head - but you should be able to figure it out with a little bit of trial/error.

If you populate this Item by the callout code in the first place it may be much easier to do the final validation then and there,
within your callout code. Then you can do a call-back to actually populate the Item or show Error message
