calling an ipl from js

Hi,

My requirement is to call an ipl file from a java script function using Call Server and the ipl calls back another function in the java script.

IWDatacapture.callServer("http://"+server+"/httpd/iw-bin/foo.ipl");

This piece of code is not functioning and am not able to call the ipl file.The ipl in return does not call the other function in the java script.

Two things come to my mind:
1. callServer method requires 3 params to be passed. Please put them and retry.
2. Instead of ipl file use a CGI which can access the js function on the client side.

I tried it this way also.. i tried passing parameters but didnt work.

The problem is, it does not call the exact location given.But instead calls
http://"+server+"/iw-mount/default/main/WorkArea/httpd/iw-bin/foo.ipl

How are you setting the value of your "server" variable. Try displaying that value using alert and see what is it?

alert gives the correct value of the server variable.

Instead of server alert, could you please check the value of ("http://"+server+"/httpd/iw-bin/foo.ipl") in your alert?

Put the alert value within browser. Else, put the code snippet.

I think /httpd shouldn't be there.
Try this:

After removing the /httpd,an internal server error occurs when the alert value is put within the browser.

After removing /httpd the call is as "http://"+server+"/iw-bin/foo.ipl" but does not call the the other function in the js from ipl.

How are you calling your js funciton from ipl?? If possible, post the code.

plz try it first on the browser by just putting the following URL:-
http://+ serverIP +/iw-bin/foo.ipl.

if it gets error, then there is problem in your ipl. otherwise this URL even
work with your code of Js.

Did you try to put the alert value within your browser?

Also, i dont think js could be called from an ipl. It runs over client side and could be associated with a CGI instead of IPL.

First of all - as has already been noted - the "/httpd" doesn't belong there.
Second of all - you don't need the "http://"+server+ part either - unless you're doing something very odd. The code should be just:

IWDatacapture.callServer("/iw-bin/foo.ipl", param, true);

Where both param and true are optional (see documentation for more information)

Internal server errors are likely from the Perl code if it attempts (by intention or otherwise) to send any output to STDOUT without having properly initialized the output stream with something like:

print "Content-type: text/html\n\n";

Beyond all that - if you're still having problems - you really need to post the code: both the FormAPI code defined in or called from the DCT and the Perl code being called from the callServer method -- if you want to get reasonable assistance from the folks reading these forums.

Try running any of the ipl scripts bundled in TS. If they are also not working then check out your perl configuration been done over the server.

It is advisable to contact Support in that case.

What other "correct" perl scripts have you tried ? This is a generic answer that *something* went wrong. 3 common places to look at are 1 make certain the perl script works, just run it form DOS. 2nd take the HTML that was printed out and save it to a file and pop it in a browser. If those both work, check the permissions of the iwui user to see if that user has access to whatever it needs to read to run the script.
