Is there a better to increase the default size of Text Field widget?

Is there a better way to increase the default size of Text Field widget and
Text Field CCE widget?
Currently user is saying the default size of Text Field widget and Text Field
CCE widget is too short, they want us to increase the size. We know we can edit
the vuale in attribute "Number of Columns:" when we create CTD but since too
many widget we need to handle, we'd like to know if there is a better way to do
this. It is better that just to change one place and both will affect. Is there
something we can do?

You can do the following:

1.       Register a “Text Field” widget in config console (under customer extension widgets) with the exact same settings of a TextField Widget (in the System Widgets).

2.       Update the XSLT of the newly registered widget. To set the size (below) …

3.       Commit the config changes, restart.

4.       Do the same for the TextField CCE widget.

 

 

With the above approach a few of things to keep in mind:

1.       This is basically going to ignore the size configuration setting in the TextField and TextField CCE widget configuration. So, if you want a TextField Widget with a size of 20 in a certain CTD, it would not be possible. However, for a TextField CCE widget you could provide a XSL override which sets the size.

2.       It will not work in cases where a XSL or JSP override is provided for a TextField CCE widget. Since this widget will use the XSL specified in the widget configuration.

3.       Upgrade – Since you are registering a widget with the same XSL used by the OOTB TextField and TextField CCE widget, in case of applying an eFix or upgrading to a new version, you would have to do it again, in case there are any changes to the OOTB XSL of these widgets.

 

So, it is up to you to decide which is best. I would prefer updating the TextField widgets in the CTD, since though it is time consuming, it is an one time effort.
