Content Migration from old CTD Structure to New CTD Structure

Hi All,

Our project needs dictate content conversion from Older CTD structure to a Newer structure.

Scenario : Consider we have a CTD named Company_Employee with 15 attributes. There are about 10000 CI's present which are of type Company_Employee. We now have to create a new CTD NewCompany_Employee with a totally different structure ( for e.g 18 attributes). Now the 10000 CI's of Company_Employee type should be migrated to NewCompany_Employee type. Finally the system should have 20000 CI's ( 10000 of Company_Employee & 10000 of NewCompany_Employee).

What would be the best way to achieve this? Any thoughts?

Hi,

Creating the instances of new CTD is not an issue. This can be achieved by a simple java program using APIs. However, you will need to consider relationships between the Employee CIs (Manager -- Subordinate type) and also convert any links that are pointing to old employee ctd to the new ctd.

That's the tricky part which is of concern here. We have already created CI's using the API's for other parts of the application. Now in this scenario, assuming contact details are stored in different CTD earlier, Company_Employee has content realtor to Contact. In the NewCompany_Employee assume that the contact details are merged into the same NewCompany_employee CTD. Here data source for the new company employee CTD is two different CTD;s ( Company_Employee and Contact).

Given this type of scenario all over, to come up with a Java program would require lot of effort. That's the reason for this question, is there any smart way of doing it otherwise using some tools may be??
