Unassociating CTD with site

We have a CTD that is no longer used, and I want to delete it from VCM (there are no content instances of this type). This CTD is associated with three sites. In our test environment, I unassociated the CTD with the three sites and deleted it with no problem.

In production (which has more content), I was able to unassociate the CTD from one site, but on the other site, it churns for five minutes, and then I get a "transaction timed out" exception. I will look into temporarily increasing the JTA timeout in runtime services, but I'm interested to know why this change takes so long to commit. I'm surprised that changing the CTD associations of a site would take so long to process. Why is this? Has anyone else run into this?

Are there a lot of content instances based on the CTD you're unassociating? If upping the JTA timeout doesn't help, you might try removing the content instances before unassociating or if there is a problem going on, you might review the logs for errors to see if there's any obvious errors. At that point though you may want to open a VOLSS ticket.

There are no content instances based on this CTD. I have looked throughthe logs, and the only error I see is the timeout exception. I was justwondering if this was expected or if anyone had run into this before.
