Content not deleted from VCMDELIVERY schema

Hi,

We have Configured Split Database so that VCM server(System) data will be stored in one schema(VCMSYSTEM) of same database and actual content in a separate schema(VCMCONTENT) of same database. Once we publish the Content, Record will be inserted into another schema(VCMDELIVERY) of same database.

Now, we tried to clean up the content from AppConsole, and we see all records in the Custom tables got deleted on VCMCONTENT schema, but some records still exists in some tables of VCMDELIVERY schema.

Anyone has any idea why some records still exists in VCMDELIVERY schema? and under what scenario those records will exists on VCMDELIVERY schema even though they got deleted from VCMCONTENT schema.

Simple…you should have did a unpublish before deleting theassets from management console. Looks like you haven’t done that, which is whyyou see dangling content still available in your delivery db schema.

This is not true. Unpublishing is notrequired before deleting. When a published item is deleted, the VCMautomatically removes it from any delivery stages it is published to. Somethingelse has gone wrong here.

Vignette Content administration guide does talk about “orphanedobjects” (for example in page 432, on the latest 8.0 version admin guide).Is this something different then?

It is explained in the first paragraph ofthat admin guide section on orphaned objects that such objects are the resultof a problem occurring during deployment/undeployment. Your original point wasthat the problem here was caused by the user not unpublishing before deleting. Mypoint was just to correct what you said by explaining that explicitunpublishing is not required before deletion. Whether or not something did orcould go wrong during the undeployment performed by the VCM during objectdelete is another matter. Perhaps that’s exactly what happened, but itisn’t because the user didn’t unpublish before deleting.

Agree David, I stand corrected on the manual unpublish requiredbefore content deletion. So, looks like Madhu will need to check the JobConsole for any orphaned objects as explained in “Assets UnpublishedSuccessfully, But Were Never Removed” section of the Content adminguide, for any possible queues? If this comes out clean, then the problem iselsewhere.

Unpublished the CI's,Unapproved followed by a deletion.

I tested by deleting the CI's with out unpublishing and records are getting deleted from delivery stages successfully. But not sure under which circumstances the records will be there eventhough they are not present in management stage.
