"ReportAssetDownloads" view
Joe_Opland
Greetings,
I have a question about the "ReportAssetDownloads" view.
We ran it, and we were hoping to get the list of downloads for some folders
which existed, but are presently deleted.
Unfortunately, those assets were apparently only listed among the items in the path.
Is there a way, to manipulate the query of the view, so that we can get some download results for the presently-deleted folders?
Thank you,
Jim

Not sure I completely understand the question, so let me describe the behavior. If an asset is in a folder that is in Deleted Items but not yet completely purged via Deleted Items Cleanup it will appear with a path that has "Deleted Items" at its top. If it has been purged the path reads: "".
This report view gathers its data from JobHistoryLog which stores only the asset id and so it can only report where it currently finds the image; it lacks the necessary information to reconstruct where it used to be.
Hope this helps.

Hi Ravi,
Actually, the specific view aside, what I was asking was more along the lines of:
If a folder has been deleted, and you need to track down:
A) what the name of that folder was, and
how many assets were downloaded from that now-deleted folder name,
is there a way to achieve that?
What we have in our MediaBin (from a custom program that we have created) is a queue of 14 folders (whose names are based on the date), where every 14th day the oldest folder gets deleted.
We are trying to achieve a query that might go all the way back to the beginning of the year and tell how many downloads took place from each of the existing and previously-existing folders.
From what we have run with the existing view so far, we are able to get the data for the presently-existing 14 folders; but everything else seems to fall under the "Deleted" folder. We need to know if we can track things by the original folder name, instead of the folder name for deleted items.
Thank you,
Jim

I am not sure I "get" the need to delete folders. The aforementioned ReportAssetDownloads view will give you the date and you can easily manipulate it to determine the week of download. If that is all the directory signifies I would do it that way.
To the more direct question, no, when an asset is downloaded MediaBin stores the asset id and not the location. For example if you download an asset from folder /Media Database/folder1 and then move it to /Media Database/folder2, querying downloads will show the asset in its new location. That is because the path is computer at the time of query not when the asset was downloaded.
