local dev installation?

hi,
im still pretty new in the teamsite world.

right im able to create templates and know the basics around teamsite ui/workflows...

i have a more general development question. as i have to connect to teamsite over a "browser vpn" its kind of a pain developing new templates.

i've heard that there also exists a "developer version of teamsite", which i could install on my local machine. is this information valid? basically i would like to develop the templates on my local machine and copy the final version over to the customer server.

You (or your manager) need to talk to Interwoven Sales - there are developer licenses - but they're not free.

most likely, the "dev version" that you heard about just means "teamsite installed on a dev box". it doesnt mean a lighter version of teamsite that you can install on any machine. the machine has to meet all teamsite requirements so that teamsite will run properly. you will also need a dev license everytime you need to install teamsite.

what do you mean with this exactly?

Development on a remote server should not be a big hassle, if (AND ONLY IF) you have proper access to it via, at least ALL of these:
- telnet or vnc
- browser
- windows file sharing or samba
- allowed to stop/start services

Could it be that you miss any of these?

Yea, but that is not the case all the time. In my current project we are allowed VPN with limited access (and TS will not work), I need to remote desktop to my work PC and work. That is a serious pain. I also have a licensed VMware image that I can (and do) development on at home, it is much better.
