Search ordering issue

Hello everybody,

We're attempting to implement a searching by relevance using Vignette API.
This searching should verify every searchable fields in a ContentItem that
match with a keyword,
emphasizing a specific field, in our case, one called TITLE. The ContentItems whose
TITLE field match the keyword should appear first,
and the ContentItems whose any other searchable fields, but the title, matches
the keyword should appear last.

For exemple:
Keyword: 'Teste'

The results should be in this order:
1º TITLE: 'Teste Title 1'; SearchableFieldX: 'ABCD Teste', where the keyword appears both in the TITLE and in any other searchable field.
2º TITLE: 'Teste Title 2'; SearchableFieldX: 'This is Searchable',  where the keyword appears only in the TITLE field.
3º TITLE: 'Aleatory Title'; SearchableFieldX: 'This is Teste' , where the keyword does not appear in the TITLE but appears in others searchable fields.

Hi,

 

It is possible to assign weight to a particular field in thesearch engine so that search terms matching those field contents are given morerelevance (shown first). Weight could be set in autonomy's IDOL cfg file(VgnIDOL.cfg).

 

By default the following could be seen in idol's cfg file

 

[IndexAndWeightHigher]

// Fields which are indexed with a weight

Property=IndexWeight

PropertyFieldCSVs=*/DRETITLE,*/DRECONTENT,*/DREREFERENCE

 

...

 

[IndexWeight]

Index=TRUE

Weight=10

 

The above settings indicate that terms/words that appear in DRETITLE,DRECONTENT and DREREFERENCE fields should be indexed with higher weights, sothat in the search results if the search terms appear in those fields, thenthose results are shown first.

 

By adding TITLE field to this list like below, it is possible toboost relevance.

 

PropertyFieldCSVs=*/DRETITLE,*/DRECONTENT,*/DREREFERENCE,*/TITLE

 

This functionality is explained in IDOL guide under section"Setting up a field process to boost result relevance". IDOL guideshould be present under docs folder within VCM installation directory.
