Can not reverse deploy from a Deployment group

This is been a pain for quite sometime now.

No matter what version of OD (windows OS only) I cannot do reverse deployments from a deployment group.

I can only do it from the root \

i.e.
\OpenDeployNG\conf\my_revese_logs.xml <--- OK
\OpenDeployNG\conf\logs\my_revese_logs.xml <--- Never got it to work
\OpenDeployNG\conf\anything\any_revese.xml <--- Never got it to work

ERROR: Could not read version string.

If anyone can confrim this to be true or be a bug or other thread I would appreciate it

I have more than 10 subfolders under the OpenDeployNG\conf
Each subfolder having more than 5 .xml config files
For example
\OpenDeployNG\conf\reversedeploy\stagingDD02_teamsite_DD02.xml
it’s working

I am deploying the files using OD UI
Did You able to access the config file from OD UI?

Although an explanation is a bit vague, take a look at this article, "Can Not read Version String" paragraph.

You may want to add "-inst SomeUniqueID" parameter to the execution command of the (supposedly) identically named configurations
coming from the different Folders.

No luck, I tried yours and made a brand new one from scratch as well. Once again it works from the root but not from the groups. I have attached it. If you could take a look?

Not sure if this helps - but in the 6.2.0 Release notes I see the following under Known Issues:[indent]56628: When you run a command-line tool that includes a deployment group and name, you must use the forward slash (“/”) as the separator between them rather than a backslash (“\”). For example:iwodcmd start group/deploymentThis applies even on Windows hosts. Failure to use the proper separator can cause problems accessing log files associated with the deployment from the browser-based user interface.[/indent]

It was worth a shot.

There's nothing that I saw in the compatibility matrix or release notes (quick scan) that indicated issues with doing reverse deployments from sub-group configuration files pulling from a 6.0.1 receiver to a 6.2.0 base - but you might want to double check with IWOV ... You might need to upgrade your receivers...

I also observed this thing. I think its a limitation of the OD product.

Whenever you deploy from the group directory, OD receiver tries to create a temporary deployment file inside the same group directory with a forward slash. And gets a I/O Exception.

{OpenDeployNG-Dir}\db\.{group-Dir}/{temp-file}

Not an OD Limitation ,
It should work even the xml files are inside the subfolders.(conf/{foldername})

But guesses , this may be a limitation ( incase reverse deploy )
, if the receiver and base versions are different
The iow support team can help on this.

Since you are getting the below error:

Possible Cause: Port already in use or not open Possible Cause: If you have multiple deployments to the same server using the same port number, you will get this message. In order to deploy simultaneously to the same server, you need to run each deployment on different ports.

Can you check the port usage during deployment?

The above situation both OD Base / Receiver are running on different machine ( doesn’t matter)

But the OD version's are different
