Thanks for all the inputs, when I build the link using API, it works fine. When I change it using the floote it doesn't work. It seems the floote just appending thevgnextfmt=<formatname> to the link, it's not changing the menuitem in the link.

So that is what is causing your problem. Whatever piece of code is printing this link is not resolving the right portal nave item.
