MB ECM 'label' options

Environment

Being able to get the base filename of the original file seems somewhat dubious in terms of value - whereas being able to retrieve (through the same interface the image is retrieved) explicit field(s) of metadata associated with the image seems a very useful feature.Does this feature exist? (if so - can someone either explain how or point me to the correct page in the documentation)

It's been a while - but I do believe that MB Workflows that ECM Connector uses normally import MB metadata as well.
Take a look at imported File EAs, there should be one named MediaBin/Metadata. MD Format is an XML record with
<attribute> subtags that in turn contain name/value Tags, etc.

If it's there - it should be trivial to parse out what you need using callServer or on PT Level during generation.
If it is not - I would take another look at that "immediate transfer" MB Workflow you use.

Hmm - Well, this does present possibilities for rolling-my-own solution, though I'm not sure if MB/ECM's setting of the image_path field would kick off an onItemChange event to kick off a callServer script to parse the metadata and place the appropriate information within the alt_text field of my DCT/DCR (but I'll try to give it a shot today if I have time).

I'd rather take care of this during user-interaction time (hence part of the reason for immediate=true), than at page generation time - especially since some of my DCT/DCR's do not get generated into pages - the content gets shipped to a DB via DD - and I don't want to have to design (and have the customer maintain) two distinct sets of code to do the same thing.

I'm not sure what you mean by ... take another look at that "immediate transfer" MB Workflow you use. - unless you mean the process that the ECM Dialog kicks off internally? I'm not looking to do a lot of extra customizations (don't have time left to do so).

It just seems to me that it would make sense for the OOTB dialog functionality to be able to automatically retrieve and populate a designated field (which it can do) with a specified metadata value (which it does not appear to be able to do)...

Anyway - I'll try to take a look at the EAs and whether I can kick off an onItemChange event for doing a callServer script...

FYI - while using a "normal" FormsPublisher <browser> element will trigger an onItemChange event, using the MediaBin ECM-Connector <dialog> element does not trigger an onItemChange event - so there doesn't seem to be any [trivial] way for me to do this - I guess I'll just leave out the 'label' parameter and let the users manually fill in the alt_text field....

That's exactly what I meant - MB transfer processes are implemented as MB Workflows. That stuff is documented/supported, can be modified, etc.

Yes, all these is covered in MB Product Documentation, not TS/ECM.
Just out of curiosity, did you have a chance to check TS Metadata of the transferred Asset(s)? Was MediaBin/Metadata there?

Yes - the MediaBin/Metadata was there (in the GUI it's given a link, which if clicked on opens another window with the full XML details)

Hi. Have read this post with interest as I am also trying to retrieve 'Alt' tag information instead of default 'label' from MediaBin 4.6.1, but unable to do so as no onItemChange event is fired.

Has anyone else come up with a solution for this?

Also, I cannot find any mention of MB workflow in the MediaBin documentation. Can you provide any more information on this solution, or point me in the right direction for the docs please?

Which MediaBin document is this information available in?

I was going through the 4.6.1 documentation and wasn't able to find any information on ECM connector or the workflows that it triggers/uses to fetch images.

We are stuck with a slightly weird issue of not being able to fetch the 'file path' of the imported asset when 'immediate=true'.
If, on the other hand, 'immediate=false', then we are able to fetch and populate the 'file path' in the DCR.

Any pointers appreciated.

There is no way to specify storing a specific MB metadata field into a specific DCR field. The only solution will be to grab the desired metadata from the (xml formated) EA. I know that Clark Breyman did a devnet webcast a few years ago that has an example of doing this via a presentation template. It might also be possible to do this in formapi as part of the onSave handler. I have not tried this, but it seems like it might be possible (not sure if an onSave can do a call server?).

A couple years back one of our consultants wanted to have the MediaBin browse button as well as the DCT browse button (used rowcontinue attribute on item element to keep both buttons on the same line). The problem was that MediaBin connector did not have a leading slash for the path of the imported image and the browser feature required this. We wrote an onSave handler to add the leading slash and it worked pretty well (its not exceptional elegant to save the file twice, but it worked).

Below is the code snippet in case it helps give a head start for the metadata population. Note: we changed the MediaBin connector to add the leading slash since that seems more consistent with rest of the product (treat current area as docroot, so absolute paths are reference from current workarea). I'm not sure the first release that has this changed behavior (probably 6.7.2 ).
