Enabling/Disabling Menu links

Jenni

Hi All,

Thank you in advance. I am trying to enable the Links(the ones I had added using the below code) of the FILE menu in a single workarea alone for the user. I had gone through the customization guide (particularly UI_CUSTOM.XML), but could not get any help on how to achieve this functionality (I might be wrong though).

What I would like to know is that how do I go about to get this functionality? Which files should I change ?

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Note: my previous post was on a different topic

Thanks!

I believe you can do it only per Branch, not Workarea. You may create a Role and then use Administration GUI.
Administration Tab->Roles and Permissions->Manage Roles. Select a Role, get custom Menu options. Check the
subset of options you need for this Location/Role

Hi Boris,

Thanks for your reply.

Ok, if not workarea, we would like to restrict the enabling of links at the sub branch level.

Your proposed solution would not work for us as the restriction is based on the roles.

In our requirement, any one, who gets into a particular sub branch should be able to view the Links of the menu. If he gets out of that particular sub branch, the links wont be in the menu to select(invisible).

Thanks!

Remember, TS GUI Menus are global. I do not think that you can create one that changes depending on user's location.
IMO the best you can do is to validate Locations within code and throw Error message if it's not applicable for
the particular action

oh ok.

Thanks for that.

I want to know how to pass on the location of the current user, when he clicks on the menu link. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

That depends on the version and Menu Script invocation wrappers. Whatever the case, certain Form is posted to your Menu CGI.
Use CGI or TeamSite::CGI_lite to parse out what you need. To figure out Form Variables use IWOV provided "show_env.cgi". Configure
it temporarily as your menu script, it'll show what has been passed to it in your particular case

Hi Boris,

Will do the changes and get back to you.

Thanks!

Boris,

I got your suggestion implemented. I had get the path, where the user was in as form variables and then determined whether he is allowed to link to the desired URL or not.

Thanks for the tips.
