Are Regions Extensible?

Hi,

What is the best way to associate addtional properties to a region? We would like to have some parameters sent to region layouts so that we can use the same layout for multiple regions. The reason is that there are very slight (style class names) modifications for each region. If we use dedicated region layouts for each variation then we will end up with almost 40 region layouts which makes it difficult to manage.

The parameters are only available at region layout level. Is there a way to add some attributes to regions and is it supported.

Hi Sohail, great question. Regions is a regular content type,though used by the  system, so updating the CTD would create trouble inthe future when upgrades come. We do have “advanced parameter”field on the Region Layouts themselves (to be interpreted by the JSP or scriptactually executed as the region layout: e.g. a “Yahoo Grid” regionlayout to which you can provide 2x2, 3x3 parameters for instance). We also haveadvanced parameters on Display views that you could use for your style classnames
