Programmatically publishing in V8

I am trying to programmatically publish content instances in V8. Here is the code I am using.

Site site = Site.findByName("test");SiteRef siteRef = new SiteRef(site);DeploymentClient dc = new DeploymentClient(siteRef, stageId);DeploymentJobDefinition deploymentJobDef = new DeploymentJobDefinition( "Test Job", JobType.PUBLISH);ManagedObjectVCMRef moRef = new ManagedObjectVCMRef( "33082be44b6cd210VgnVCM10000065c9a8c0STFL");ContentInstancePattern cip = new ContentInstancePattern(moRef);deploymentJobDef.setContentPattern(cip, false);deploymentJobDef.setDescription("Automated PUBLISH");deploymentJobDef.setRequestor("Admin");JobReport jobReport = dc.createJob2(deploymentJobDef);ObjectId jobId = jobReport.getJobData().getId();if (jobReport.isJobValid()) {  dc.launchJob(jobId);} else {  dc.releaseJob(jobId);}

It fails during createJob2 call and throws a ClassNotFound exception for Environ class. This class is in a different jar (not vgn-appsvcs-cda or cma) that should not be included in any case. Just for the heck of it, I included that jar and it still failed while trying to get the stageName. I have validated that the stageId that I am passing to the constructor of DeploymentClient is actually valid.

Anyone else ran into this issue? Do you know how to fix it?

If that class is not found it means that you are running this code outside of the VCM, isn't it that the case ? I might be wrong but I think that you cannot create a publish job from a standalone program.

If I remember correctly, the error is caused because one of the CTDs references that class and it can't be found when you run your program standalone. Try adding the class or jar to your classpath and see if it works.

Well, this sort of exception usually means that your code isgetting initialized incorrectly, and thinks it’s running in a differentkind of environment than it actually is. From your specific symptom, it looksto me like your code thinks that it’s running in the VCM proper (or a VCMextension).

No, the problem is that your code thinks it is running in theVCM server itself. Your DeploymentClient.createJob2() call should be going to astub that invokes an RMI call to the server; instead it’s dropping downinto code that will only work within the VCM server. You need to get yourprogram started so that it thinks it is an RMI client.

Let us start testing the same piece of code in the same way. As Mark says, the issue should not be in the code but in the way you run it or from where you run it.

So first please execute the code I pasted before from your IDE. Do not forget to replace in the call

new AppServerClient("annadoiram", 27110, "vgnadmin", "vignette");

the host, port, user and pwd of your VCM host. If you have the Sample Site you don't need to change anything else.
