VCM REST API - in 8.0 or 8.1?

On February 3rd, Bertrand replied to a post asking for a list of VCM features added in different releases by attaching a VCM Features History spreadsheet. That spreadsheet lists the REST API in VCM 8.0. However, in the "Upgrading to WEM 8.1" presentation from TechConnect 2011, the REST API was listed as a new feature in WEB 8.1.

I can't find any mention of the REST API in the 8.0 documentation, so I'm assuming it's not available until WEM 8.1. Can you confirm?

The REST API introduced in VCM 8.0 was for the purpose of the new Content Workspaces user interface. It is not a public API (though you can probably figure it out easily with Firebug or equivalent tools).

The REST API introduced in WEM 8.1 is for the purpose of accessing published content (read only API – it’s actually a subset of the larger REST API introduced in 8.0). It’s a public and documented API

RAF stands for Read Access Filtering. Unless I’m mistaken it refers to a feature that applies the security rules used by the console to the searches performed by the API in the delivery stages.

At the moment it’s an extension and is not part of the product.

RAF stands for Read Access Filtering, and corresponds to the fact that you should not see the items for which you don’t have a read access in the VCM (by navigating or searching). This is a roadmap item for the VCM as today the items can sometimes be found and it’s only when clicking on its name that the authorization check happens and that the user is refused the right to view the item

The REST API coming with the 8.1 release will make it possible to query sites, channels, content items and static files and also to run arbitrary queries (similar to what is possible via the DB Query API) in a very simple XML over HTTP format . The documentation will come as a set of examples delivered within the Web Application running the Web API itself (/vgn-webapi), e.g.

http://vcmdelivery.server/vgn-webapi/rest/channel/list.xml?id=304c7a4c38d66110VgnVCM1000005701010aRCRD -> returns the list of all subchannels for a given channel in XML format

http://vcmdelivery.server/vgn-webapi/rest/channel/list.json?id=304c7a4c38d66110VgnVCM1000005701010aRCRD -> returns the list of all subchannels for a given channel in JSON format

The API will support various sorting and pagination options.

WEM REST API is not public API (thus not documented), So you should avoid using it as it can change without notice.

With WEM 8.1 Developers do have access to Read Only WEM REST API (also cached), primarily used to build Delivery Applications.

RAF stands for Read Access Filtering, and corresponds to the fact that you should not see the items for which you don’t have a read access in the VCM (by navigating or searching). This is a roadmap item for the VCM as today the items can sometimes be found and it’s only when clicking on its name that the authorization check happens and that the user is refused the right to view the item

The REST API coming with the 8.1 release will make it possible to query sites, channels, content items and static files and also to run arbitrary queries (similar to what is possible via the DB Query API) in a very simple XML over HTTP format . The documentation will come as a set of examples delivered within the Web Application running the Web API itself (/vgn-webapi), e.g.

http://vcmdelivery.server/vgn-webapi/rest/channel/list.xml?id=304c7a4c38d66110VgnVCM1000005701010aRCRD -> returns the list of all subchannels for a given channel in XML format

Just to be clear. The static file is created in VCM but error is also logged in the log file for our application. We can choose to ignore this error and continue on but it doesn't sound correct.
