Can you expalin how does external task work ?

External task is one of the most important task in a workflow. It is frequently used when you need to generate the web page from your template or deploy the content from one server to another or send email notifications to Approvers and Reviewers.

It contains various elements such as areavpath, successors etc. The command element of an external task is mandatory and it is what seperates external tasks from other tasks. The command element contains path of an external ipl file or INSERT the perl defined variable to trigger external file to achieve some task.

If you are not required to do any user interaction, your CGI task is as good as an external task.

You can run the scripts or call any system command.
