External Task and Email Task

In the workflow for sending emails we have two tasks External and Email.
Mostly external task is used for sending mails then what is the need of having email task.
Is there any difference between External and Email task?

Email task is essentially an external task only ( calling an external script). For precise differentiation between External Task and Email Task refer the workflow devloper guide.

Email Task in WFM (at least 1.0.0.1) is actually a URL Task (not an External Task) - which calls a Java program (not iw_solution_email.ipl) to send the email.

Personally, I haven't had success with the Email Task - but I've only tried using it once so far.
