When we click preview for a particular DCR, which carries information in XML tags. Presentation template will extract information fron this DCR and display this information in html page. Now this presentation template carries some non-html tags e.g. iw_pt. Browser understands only html tags. So how these non-html tags are taken care of ? Who removes them before presenting to html page ?

Hi,

iw_pt is a Template Tag which controls parsing mode of presentation template. Depending on how this tag is used (or not used), the presentation
template/component is either parsed according the strict rules of XML, or using a "non-XML" parsing mode.

The advantage of "non-XML" mode is that HTML no longer needs to be protected by ... directives.Template tags can be placed directly into HTML (or any other file format that follows a consistent encoding), and everything just works.

To paraphrase one of the original developers:[indent]A presentation template is an arbitrary program that processes arbitrary data (DCR) to produce arbitrary output (HTML page)[/indent]The PT does not extract information from the DCR as much as it processes information extracted from the DCR (minor, though perhaps important distinction). The result of processing the DCR via the PT is the output - the PT itself is not the output.
